- Surface Prep: Paint will have trouble adhering to a dirty or ultrasmooth surface, so use a degreasing solution to remove the dirt and grime from your cabinet surfaces. For surfaces that have cracks or uneven areas, fill them in with wood filler to create a seamless surface.
- Sand Your Cabinetry: If your cabinets are in good condition, you can skip sanding to preserve their existing finish. After degreasing, use a 100-grit or 120-grit sandpaper or sanding block to get them to a smooth surface. M

- Prime: Prime each part of the cabinetry surface with an oil-based or alkyd primer. You will achieve better paint adhesion and coverage on a primed surface.
